Training update – 1 April 2019

They say variety is the spice of life and this certainly reflects my experience of late. The week before last, I facilitated a training session on disability awareness for small to medium businesses working across the tourism and hospitality industry. Then last week I moved on to a completely different topic, facilitating a workshop to help older people accessing aged care services to share their stories with the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

I’ve got a couple of things on the go this week. I’ll start out by delivering another session around the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety before moving on to piloting a new workshop on Thursday. This workshop is targeted towards HR staff and Managers working in small to medium businesses. It aims to enhance their capacity to recruit and retain workers with disability and foster a work culture that is more inclusive.

Next week I’m off to Sydney, where I’ll be delivering two full day training sessions to policy and projects staff working across the public service. This training aims to enhance participants’ capacity to uphold the principles set out under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in their day-to-day work. Sounds boring, right? That’s exactly what I love about my job – The challenge of taking a topic that seems pretty dry on the surface and breathing some life into it so that it becomes interesting, fun and relevant. It’s going to be a great couple of weeks!
